Culture of the Tribes of Kerala

The tribes of Kerala possess a unique and remarkable culture of their own. They give much importance to their customs, rituals and rites. Pregnance, delivery, first feeding, ornamentation upon ear, wedding, death etc. consist of different and strange ceremonies. Their beliefs and rites can be seen as their view upon the world. Polygamy, polyandry, usurped marriage, exchange marriage, elope marriage, purchase marriage etc. were their marriage customs.
A strange system was reported as the marriage prevailed among the Thenkuravar living in Wayanad. The bride accepts money from the bridegroom for a grand feast to the family of bride. The bridal function will be fixed upon the dream seen by the senior most in the family. If a nightmare was haunted within the head of the seniormost family member, the proposal will be rejected.
The tribes of Kerala believes in life after death. They deposits the eatables and so beside the deadbody during burial.
The Irular at Attappadi serve a strange news of their custom to the modern world. On the very day of death, everybody dances with great pleasure at the courtyard where the deady body is laid with the thrill of musical instrumentation.
